Have you ever wondered about how different domains are connected to their servers?

A virtual server is something that connects the clients to its real servers, which saves data on the way. For instance, if you make a website and get a domain, your data would be saved on a Virtual server. It acts as a bridge to your main server. The term Virtual server would lead us to several distinct technologies, two of which we would discuss further. Virtual server and virtual private server.

What’s the difference?

Well a VPS (virtual private server) works for an individual server or an individual person whereas a Virtual server is a server on which countless websites can be hosted.

When you come to think of it, these virtual servers aren’t “virtual” at all, they are actually with the server hosting providers. Just as each computer has its own IP address, each server has a domain which makes things a lot easier! What would life be like if these domains didn’t actually exist? Lets just say it would be an eternal maze and no one would be getting anywhere out of it.

A virtual server allows a company or an individual to have their own website and to be able to have their own specified domain name, IP address, Administer file directories, assign different domain names, they can manage their own logs, statistics analysis and keep passwords. However, it does not allow them to manage the hardware aspects of running a certain server.

Coming back to our topic, internet life without domains would not have been anywhere near to as simple as they are now. In fact, the trafficking would just have caused constant crashing of servers. Each domain connects us to a different server, dividing every file very specifically. Let’s explain why domains are so important. If one hosts a website on his/her computer, anyone being given the IP address would be able to access it but who would actually remember such long names? That’s why these are connected to domains, making internet life a lot easier and simpler so in order to search for it all one has to do is connect to its domain.

Today’s most wide spread social networking website Facebook actually allows one to choose his/her own domain within the website. This helps one get insight of the applications or pages and tells one how many users are interacting with his/her page or application, worlds within worlds is what I would like to call it. This might have given you a better understanding of how domains and virtual servers work. So just imagine a world without domains.
