There are many ways to whiten your teeth and people go for different types of teeth whitening procedures to get their teeth whitened. Teeth whitening can be done using whitening toothpastes and other products that help remove many surface stains at lower cost. If you opt for a light-activated whitening techniques at a dentist’s clinic then the cost can go up, but they produce dramatic results.

Basically there are two main types of teeth whitening techniques :

Bleaching Teeth Whitening Procedure:  Bleaching is used in teeth whitening. An active ingredient carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide in concentrations of 10-22% contained in bleaches helps remove both deep and surface stains.

There is significant cost differences are there between different bleaching procedures. A light-activated whitening session also called chairside bleaching can cost $500 or more at a dental clinic. The results are instant and you get dramatically whiter teeth. But after a year or so of eating and drinking coffee, tea or soft drinks, your teeth develop new stains and become slightly discolored again. Now, you have to again visit the dental clinic and repeat the procedure with chairside bleaching and pay the $500 to have white teeth again.

Non-Bleaching Teeth Whitening Procedures: Using this procedure help remove surface stains from your teeth by physical and/or chemical action. Most toothpastes have got mild abrasion that help to remove surface stains between dental visits. These whitening toothpastes have a special chemical or polishing agent that provides additional stain removal. A dentist also uses abrasion and polishing to remove the external staining caused by food and tobacco.

Each person responds differently to different teeth whitening procedures. For some people, whitening toothpastes are enough to get their teeth whitened, while people who have serious discoloration in their teeth may require porcelain veneers or bonding. With the teeth whitening procedures you can achieve the smiles you always wanted. Always remember that it’s only your dentist who can determine what’s the right teeth whitening procedure for you.
