Stainless steel has a long reputed history to boast of. It has been a primary material since the 1990s to build skyscrapers, monuments and are even use in several kitchen utensils. It is called “stainless” as it has the quality of resisting corrosion and stains, as it contains chromium, which is known as a hard metal being able to maintain a healthy appearance and is also resistant to corrosion. Stainless steel also contains other elements like carbon and iron. It can also be polished to a smooth silver shine which looks great in every way. There are actually several properties which makes stainless steel so great and differentiates it from other metal alloys, like – • It is easy to clean and maintain • It has enormous level of strength and durability • It is rust or corrosion resistance • It is used in automotive and other heavy manufacturing • It is best for piping systems used for transporting water Stainless steel is also widely used in the construction industry primarily for the purpose of providing strength and support to building structures and are also used in columns and beams. Even though the cost of stainless steel is a bit high, it is still used in architectural design works in order to reduce the maintenance cost in the future. When a building is constructed it needs an adequate structure for it to have support. In addition to wall starters, lintels and masonary supports, other equipment like tying wire, wall ties, screws and nails, all are manufactured from stainless steel. In the early days of construction, cast iron was mostly used because of its easy to mould feature but it was later replaced with carbon steel which features higher durability and yield strength than cast iron and carbon steel. So elucidating the entire thing, here are some of the most popular uses of stainless in construction – • Handrails • Roofing • Drainage and Water Systems • Handrails • Wall Support Products • Fixings Just like the best quality TMT bars, stainless steel is undoubtedly one of the useful material for building construction. When it comes to construction, you have to determine the grade as per the building structure. The quality of strength, durability and corrosion resistance of stainless steel differs from one grade to another and appropriate grade should be used as per construction. Stainless steel is used for buildings for both practical and aesthetic reasons. Stainless steel was in vogue during the art deco period. The most famous and perfect example of this is the upper portion of the Chrysler Building. For structural designs, stainless steel is used for columns, beams, and in general architectural structures, it is also applied to atriums, canopies, outdoor staircases, and swimming pool sheds for the purpose of aesthetic appeal. Some restaurants use large ornamental panels and stainless fixtures and furniture because of it possess the quality of being durable, many of these buildings retain their original appearance.Stainless steel do requires maintenance in order to keep its quality up. A proper maintenance routine keeps the stainless steel study and increases its longevity. In fields such as aerospace, pharmaceuticals and food handling, an extremely high standard of cleanliness and extra care may be required. Stainless steel are broadly categorized in three types - austenitic, ferritic and martensitic. Austenitic stainless steel is considered more corrosion resistant than ferritic and martensitic stainless steels and are widely used for building applications. Ferritic stainless steel is used widely for interiors where corrosion resistance is not a big factor as their corrosion resistance property is not that good. Martensitic stainless steel are brittle and are harder to weld and shape. They are used in cutlery, surgical and dental instruments, springs, cookwear, industrial blades, scissors, vehicle stampings, screwdrivers, pliers, and staple guns.
